Dolly Parton created the Imagination Library to encourage kids to read early and well. All the research shows that reading to children when they are very young increases their reading skills. The Friends of Lake City Library funds The Imagination Library’s books for all children from birth to age 5 in Florence School District 3 (FSD3). The Educational Foundation recruits eligible children for this program. We perform the administrative tasks to ensure that books are mailed to children every month. Because of the generosity of the Friends of Lake City Library, these monthly books will be at no cost to parents.
Dolly Parton Foundation has been gifting books to young children since 1996. In 2000, the Imagination Library became a national organization. Since then they have expanded to 5 countries and distributed over 228 million books to kids. In South Carolina, 38 of our 42 counties participate in the Imagination Library’s effort to encourage kids to read. Our district received a special dispensation from Dolly Parton’s Foundation. They organize their program at the county level. Unfortunately, Florence County is one of the four counties not participating. https://florencelibrary.org/
If you have children or grandchildren who are not enrolled in this program, sign them up today. You may enroll them in one of three ways. Our preferred way is for you to use the QR code at the top of this article to enroll them. Or the librarians at the Lake City Library will be happy to sign up your child. And if these suggestions don’t work for you, contact us at the Educational Foundation and we will help you complete their registration.
